13th November 2023: The former premises of Buzz Bingo in Grantham, a town on the cusp of Lincolnshire, has entered the property market, boasting a substantial price of £1.2 million. This notable edifice, positioned conveniently just off the A1 on Venture Way, has transitioned from a local entertainment venue to a significant real estate opportunity after its recent closure. Eddisons incorporating Banks Long & Co are orchestrating the sale, presenting the site with an interesting prospect as it comes with an occupational lease to Buzz Group Limited. The lease is active until June 2025 and generates an annual rent of £120,000, exclusive of additional costs. The architectural design of the building is functional and robust, consisting of a steel portal frame structure with steel sheet cladding and a fibre-cement sheet roof. Inside, the property reflects its former use as a Bingo Hall, with a spacious open plan area designated for gaming, finished with carpeting, painted walls, and a suspended ceiling equipped with modern lighting.

12th October 2023: Buzz Bingo has had an incredibly busy week this week; when they weren’t paying a massive £10k prize to a lucky player who regularly attends their bingo hall in Coventry, they have been on the hunt for a new chief product officer. Instead of bringing in someone from outside the company, the bingo brand has kept it within the family by deciding to hire a new candidate from within its own ranks. David Evans has been with the company for three years, mostly within the digital operations division; this new role is a major step up for Evans, who presumably couldn’t wait to update his LinkedIn profile following the promotion, it may just be a matter of time before he is headhunted by a new company after, as alluded to by EGR Global on the 6th of October, he has proven to be a vital asset to the company.

Another big news item appeared in the Basingstoke Gazette this week, which published a story on the police’s reactions to the conviction of Stanley Elliot, who was found guilty of committing burglary at a Buzz Bingo Hall in Basingstoke. A detective on the case stated his dedication to bringing justice following the crime which saw Elliot take £28k away from the bingo hall. He was found guilty following a 4-day trial at Winchester Crown Court following the incident which happened in 2020.

Although, we’re pretty sure that there is no shame in heading down to the bingo hall on your own as you’re sure to meet some like-minded folk! 24th August 2023: On the 15th of August, the Cumberland newspaper News & Star informed residents of Carlisle that the venue, which used to belong to Buzz Bingo, is quite literally getting a new lease of life. The repurposing of the venue may be in its early stages. However, plans have been submitted to the local council, which asks for permission to transform the site into a mixed entertainment and socialising venue. For those unfamiliar with the venue, the soon-to-be repurposed building can be found on the upper floor of the Englishgate Plaza. While it is unclear what kind of business model the new owners will run on going off the publicly available details, the News & Star did tease that the entertainment hub will allow attendees to dabble in arcade games, crazy golf, bowling and virtual darts – apparently, the traditional cork dartboards are old hat now! As all that gaming will be hungry and thirsty work, there will also be a number of food and drink vendors on-site.

When submitting the planning application, the potential new owners promised they wouldn’t alter the exterior of the building, and assured the council that there would be no disruption to the neighbouring units. The application was originally submitted on the 10th of August by Graves Cumberland Ltd, who are optimistic that their planning proposal will be wholly successful. The closure of the Buzz Bingo Club axed 16 jobs, but if the new planning proposal gets the green light, Graves will create four full-time jobs and advertise ten part-time positions.

10th August 2023: If you were wondering which town or city in the UK gets the luckiest when they lock eyes with a bingo card, a recent post by the Daily Record has the answer. After the Buzz Bingo Club in Coatbridge paid a £50k jackpot to four members in under two years, the town was dubbed one of the luckiest places for bingo players. 12th July 2023: This week, The Gazette Standard, which keeps its readers informed of all the latest local happenings in Essex County, came up trumps with an utterly bizarre news story of how a Buzz Bingo member at the Colchester branch has been banned for life, and there is plenty more to the story than that headline; it is akin to pulling a thread of surrealism listening to how the story unfolds. After one very fateful evening at the Colchester bingo club, Maureen Potticary was banned for a year after drunken and disorderly behaviour; attempting to appeal the year-long ban resulted in a lifetime ban from the establishment. Maureen is claiming that for the past five and a half years, she has paid £100 a month to keep her membership active and that on some days, she would spend 10 hours with a bingo dabber in hand.

The banned bingo player is also stating that drinking excessively isn’t usually part of her bingo playing habits; she is pinning her intoxicated state on the mix of alcohol and medication for her PTSD. Ironically, her behaviour at the Buzz Bingo hall could have resulted in PTSD for the staff members she verbally assaulted during her last visit. While she is maintaining that she didn’t do anything offensive during her intoxicated bingo hall outing, the staff members are telling a very different story. 27th June 2023: On the 22nd of June, HR Magazine informed its readers that three major companies trading in the UK were found guilty of minimum wage violations. The three companies included Chanel, Argos, and one of the nation’s favourite bingo providers, Buzz Bingo. In the case of Buzz Bingo, the underpayments boiled down to uniform charges. After the fine, HR Magazine spoke to a Buzz Bingo spokesperson who wanted to declare that as soon as the company was made aware of the violations, they got to work ensuring the issues would not be repeated in the future. The spokesperson also iterated that all short-changed employees were immediately reimbursed after it had been revealed they had been underpaid in 2018. A sum of almost £320k needed to be paid to 3,448 workers.
