Streamlining The Company

On November 27th 2021, it was announced that the William Hill Casino brand was streamlining operations by closing three of its less popular casino brands. The brands that were shuttered were Casino Club, 21 Nova and Eurogrand. The choice to close 3 of their brands happened after an evaluation of the business footprint and took effect almost immediately. From November 29th, 2021, players were longer be able to register and play at the three brands that were set to close. However, they were given until 24th of January 2022 to withdraw all of their winnings and deposits. Its website was closed, and the brand was brought back to the primary William Hill website. It was luckier still to stay alive after 888 Holdings purchased the entire William Hill Group in 2022.

William Hill Sponsors UK Racing League

William Hill Casino is now such a small part of the William Hill brand that it’s unlikely we’ll see it undertake any sponsorship activities in its own right, but there’s no slowing down its parent company even after the 888 Group takeover. With that in mind, sports betting is a big part of the action at William Hill. Not only does the casino facilitate sports betting with incredible odds, but it also invests in a myriad of different sports. Most recently, the bookmaker became the title sponsor of a new racing competition, the Racing League. The Racing League is the first-ever team horseracing competition in the UK.

The competition started on July 29th, 2021 at Newcastle Racecourse, the event was packed to the rafters with horse racing fans and bettors alike, all looking to get a slice of the exciting action. The competition was hosted by Championship Horseracing, and the total prize fund for the event came in at £1.8 million. That is £50,000 to the winning team from each race and a £200,000 bonus for the top three jockeys. As the title sponsor, William Hill offered excellent odds on each of the races.

In the 2020s, how ethical a company or brand is can make all of the difference in the eyes of potential customers. In a press release in October 2021, the casino brand and sports betting site announced its plans to drive community engagement and have a positive impact on society. Here are just a few of the ways that William Hill has recently attempted to make a positive impression across the UK:

•William Hill Casino announced its new “Support Within Sport” partnership. With the help of Support Within Sport, William Hill announced a support service that is available to all Premier League teams, including the coaches and referees. The clinical service involved physical health checks by doctors in sports medicine. For those struggling with mental health issues, ongoing counselling support was available. Since launching in 2016, over 200 people have benefited from the service.

•William Hill has also supported a Kenyan charity, Raising Futures, which provides skill development for young people in the aim of enabling them to become financially secure and independent. In 2021, the brand also donated to Seed of Hope which funded their sanitation programme.

•The impact of Covid-19 was devastating in Malta which is where William Hill’s international hub is based. The economy was hard hit by the lack of tourism and travel, so William Hill provided ample support to Foodbank Lifeline Malta. Additionally, William Hill provided extra support to their Maltese colleagues.

•Like many companies, William Hill reviewed its environmental impact in 2020 and announced its plans to transition into a carbon-neutral company. In October, they made the switch to a more environmentally-friendly energy company that uses renewable energy – but they didn’t stop there. William Hill plans to switch to hydro, wind and solar power to save up to 61,500 tonnes of CO2.

•While some companies get their kicks from avoiding taxes, William Hill prides itself on its economic contribution. In 2020 it paid over £292 million in duties and tax. They also helped the government to collect tax and repaid the £24.5 million pounds that came their way via the Job Retention Scheme, which was put into place as companies were placing their members of staff on furlough.

October is Black History Month, and not for the first time, William Hill Casino got involved in 2021. The brand takes equality, inclusion and diversity seriously. After the racial abuse scandal that arose in football in the summer of 2021, they were keen to create time and space to appreciate and understand black history.
